TILE CARE
De La Espada use handmade Portuguese tiles from the Viúva Lamego factory in Sintra. The tiles are made from clay formed by extrusion, and glazed using metallic oxides as a colour vehicle. A high gloss glaze creates a beautiful reflective surface. As an artisanal product, each tile is unique in terms of the linearity of its edges, planarity of its face, and variation in colour and sheen, adding individuality to every piece.
For daily maintenance, wipe the surface with a clean damp cloth. Any spillages should be wiped clean immediately. For regular deeper cleaning, use window cleaner applied with a soft cloth or paper towel. Never use abrasive cleaners or high-concentration cleaning products as this may scratch or strip the glaze on the tile.
To remove stubborn stains such as water stains and rings, we recommend using Peek polish cream. Peek has a consistency similar to toothpaste. Apply a small amount to a paper towel and rub it onto the stain on the tile only, being sure to avoid the grout. Wait a few seconds then use a clean paper towel to wipe off any remaining product and to clean the surface. Repeat this process as needed until the stain is removed. Next, clean the tile with window cleaner and a microfibre cloth.
Prevention is the best protection against surface scratches. Use mats and coasters to protect the surface. Please ensure that direct contact with hot objects is avoided by using table mats.
