UNIVERSITY OF OREGON JAQUA CENTER

The John E Jaqua Academic Center for Student Athletes is a 40,000 square foot building for the NCAA-mandated academic services for student athletes. Located next to the office of admissions at Oregon Hall, the Jaqua Center is a steel and glass cubic structure with floor-to-ceiliing vison glass which allows natural daylight to flood to interior space. Designed by ZGF Architects LLP, the building is intended for introspection, study and learning. This concept is reinforced by the reflecting pool that surrounds the building on all four sides, as well as the Birch “forest” on the North side, both which provide a tranquil respite in an otherwise busy landscape. The interior makes extensive use of wood, bringing warmth to the modern design. Fin Dining Chairs by Matthew Hilton line the study tables next to the cafe area.

Winner of the 2011 Institute Honor Award for Interior Architecture.
