THE LANTERN
The Lantern is a residence in South West London with extension and refurbishment by Fraher Architects. The existing building, essentially rebuilt from the inside out and extended down and outwards, was transformed into a series of spaces with a strong reference to Eastern Design. Natural light is maximised through the use of glass, from the floor to ceiling sliding glass doors in the kitchen, to the slice of glass that wraps vertically around the two floor extension, acting as a light box for the rest of the building. A central four storey American Black Walnut staircase connects the habitable spaces through its tree like presence, and can be overlooked from the roof top study at the top of the house. Natural materials are used in abundance with timber used for the staircase, flooring, and bespoke cabinetry. The kitchen features Light Extending Table designed by Matthew Hilton and manufactured by De La Espada.
